Choco Chunk Cookie

Thick, crisp at the edge, still soft in the middle. Proper chocolate chunks rather than chips, so there are pockets that are still molten if you eat it warm. The everyday one, and the one I bake most.

Box of 2, 760 PKR

What is in it

Butter, Brown & white sugar, Free-range eggs, All-purpose flour, Dark chocolate chunks, Baking soda, Sea salt, Pure vanilla extract.

Allergens: Contains wheat, eggs and dairy. Made in a kitchen that also handles nuts.

Thick, crisp where it met the tray, soft the whole way through the middle. Chocolate chunks rather than chips, which is a small change that alters the entire cookie.

Chunks, not chips

Chips are built to hold their shape. There is stabiliser in them, and that is why a chip is still a neat little cone after twenty minutes in an oven. Chunks are just chocolate broken up, so they spread, they pool, and if you eat the cookie warm some of them are still liquid.

It costs more, it is messier, and it is worth it. It also means no two cookies look the same, because where the chocolate ends up is not something you get to decide.

How it is made

Butter and both sugars creamed properly, brown for the chew and white for the crisp edge. The dough rests before baking, which lets the flour hydrate and deepens the flavour, and it is scooped heavy so the cookie stays thick instead of spreading thin. Sea salt goes on top just before it goes in.

What it eats like

Crisp for the first centimetre, then soft, then very slightly underdone right in the middle, which is where it is supposed to be. The salt on top is not subtle and is not meant to be. It is there to stop the whole thing reading as sweet, and without it this cookie would be ordinary.

How to serve it

Ten seconds in a microwave and the chunks go molten again. That is the best version of this cookie and it takes almost no effort.

The honest bit

It is a big cookie. Two of them is a lot of cookie for one person in one sitting, and the box is sized on the assumption that you are sharing or saving one. Nobody has complained about this yet.

Which one to order

This is the everyday one and the one I bake most. If you want a cookie to have with tea, order this. If you want an event, order the Messy.

Questions people ask

How many are in a box?
Two. Everything in the brownie and cookie range is sold as a box of two.
How long do they keep?
Four or five days in an airtight container. They are best on the first day and still good on the third.
Why chunks instead of chips?
Chips contain stabiliser so they keep their shape in the oven. Chunks are just broken chocolate, so they spread and pool, and they are still molten if you eat the cookie warm.
Can I warm them up?
Yes, and you should. Ten seconds is enough.
