Double Chocolate Brownie
Two kinds of Van Houten chocolate, melted into the batter and folded through in chunks. Softer and wetter in the middle than the Chewy, so it wants a fork if you are being polite.

Two kinds of Van Houten chocolate. Dark melted into the batter, milk chocolate chunks folded through at the end so they stay whole. Softer, wetter and considerably richer than the Chewy.
How it is made
Same butter, same eggs, same care, and pulled out of the oven earlier. That is really all it is. A brownie is mostly a decision about when to stop, and this one stops while the middle is still moving.
The milk chocolate chunks go in last and go in cold, so they sit as chunks rather than dissolving into the batter. When you cut a piece you can see them, and that is deliberate rather than decorative: a chunk that has melted into the mix is just more sweetness, and a chunk that has stayed whole is something to find.
What it eats like
It gives way under a fork. The middle is close to a truffle and the edges have some structure to them, so which piece you get out of the box matters more here than it does with the Chewy. Both are good. They are just different.
Rich enough that half a piece is a real serving, though what you do with the other half is your business.
How to serve it
Cold from the fridge it is firmer and cleaner to eat, and plenty of people prefer it that way even though I keep telling them not to. Room temperature is how it is meant to be. Warm, with something cold next to it, it is the best thing on this website.
The honest bit
It does not travel as well as the Chewy. It is softer, so a box that has been through a long courier run in summer can arrive with the chunks smudged and the edges pressed. It tastes exactly the same. If you want something that arrives looking as good as it tastes every single time, the Chewy is the safer parcel.
Which one to order
Order this if the Chewy sounds too restrained. Order the Chewy if you want to eat it standing up.
Questions people ask
- How many are in a box?
- Two. Everything in the brownie and cookie range is sold as a box of two.
- How is it different from the Chewy Brownie?
- It comes out of the oven earlier, so the middle stays soft, and it has milk chocolate chunks folded through on top of the dark chocolate in the batter. The Chewy is firmer and holds together in your hand.
- Does it need refrigerating?
- No. An airtight box at room temperature for up to five days. The fridge firms it up if you prefer it that way, but it is not required.
- Does it travel well?
- It arrives intact and tasting right, but it is soft, so on a long summer run the chunks can smudge and the edges can press. If appearance matters, the Chewy holds its shape better.
