Chewy Brownie
Baked a few minutes longer than most, which is what gives it the chew. Van Houten dark chocolate, real butter, and a papery top that cracks when you press it. Nobody has ever stopped at one.
Box of 2, 520 PKR
What is in it
Dark chocolate, Butter, Free-range eggs, Brown sugar, All-purpose flour, Cocoa powder, Pure vanilla extract.
Allergens: Contains wheat, eggs and dairy. Made in a kitchen that also handles nuts.
Baked a few minutes past where most recipes tell you to stop. Those few minutes are the whole difference between a brownie that is fudgy and a brownie that is chewy, and this one is firmly the second.
How it is made
Van Houten dark chocolate melted with real butter. No oil, no substitutions. The eggs and sugar are beaten long enough to take on air, which is what gives you the thin papery top that cracks when you press it. Then the flour goes in by hand and stops the moment it disappears, because a brownie that has been mixed hard is a brownie that comes out like cake.
Baked in small batches, cut once cool, boxed in twos. They are baked to order rather than sitting in a case, which is why an order takes a day or two to leave rather than going out the same afternoon.
What it eats like
Dense and heavy for its size. It holds together when you pick it up and it pulls slightly when you bite. One is usually enough, which is a thing people say about brownies and rarely mean, and in this case is nearly true.
How to serve it
Room temperature is how it is meant to be eaten. Ten seconds in a microwave turns it into something looser and warmer, closer to the Double Chocolate, which is a fine thing to want but is not what this one is for.
With coffee it is very good. With cold milk it is better. If you are putting it out for people, cut each piece in half: they are heavier than they look and halves disappear where whole ones sit there looking daunting.
The honest bit
The chew is the point, so if what you actually want is the fudgy kind that collapses under a fork, this is not it and you will be mildly disappointed. That is what the Double Chocolate is for.
Which one to order
Start with the Chewy if you want a brownie you can hold in one hand. If you want a brownie you need a fork for, order the Double Chocolate instead. Nationwide orders need three boxes anyway, so a box of each and one to spare settles the argument properly.
Questions people ask
- How many are in a box?
- Two. Everything in the brownie and cookie range is sold as a box of two.
- How long do they keep?
- They are at their best in the first three days. Kept in an airtight box at room temperature they hold for about five. Do not refrigerate them, it dries them out.
- Can they be frozen?
- Yes, wrapped well, for about a month. Thaw them at room temperature rather than in a microwave.
- How is this different from the Double Chocolate Brownie?
- This one is baked longer, so it is firmer and chewier and you can eat it with your hands. The Double Chocolate comes out of the oven earlier and stays soft in the middle.
